Recent Publications

  • Paddock to Plate: policy propositions for sustaining food and farming systems is the second and final phase of the Future Food & Farming project commissioned by the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) with funding from the William Buckland Foundation. The report explores the future of the Victorian food system in a carbon-, water-, energy- and nutrient-constrained world.  The Policy Propositions document (pdf 724Kb) outlines 24 policy suggestions that would assist Victoria to equip its food and farming system to deliver healthier foods, healthier profits and healthier landscapes.  This report builds on a more comprehensive background paper (pdf 6.7Mb) published by ACF in October 2008.  More information about the project can be found on the ACF website.
  • A new agenda for Landcare, Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resource Management       As the 20th anniversary of Bob Hawke's launch of the Decade of Landcare came and went without remark, this paper in the Journal Agricultural Science presents an agenda to rejuvenate landcare.   |pdf (200 Kb)|

A Climate Change Primer for Regional Natural Resource Management (NRM).
This report commissioned by the Department of Climate Change reviews the science around regional climate change impacts and summarises key findings into a primer targeted at the Board members and senior staff of regional NRM and catchment bodies. pdf 1.3MB or DCC website

 

  • Food, Energy, Water:  converging insecurities (and the rare win-wins offered by soil stewardship)  A feature article in the US Journal of Soil & Water Conservation discussing how soil stewardship is one of the few win-wins in managing food security, energy security and water security issues, which are often in tension if not conflict.  The article can be downloaded directly from the Journal or here.
